Important Info
- Japan's eVisa launched for Indian applicants on 1 April 2024. It is a single-entry, tourism-only e-visa valid for a stay of up to 90 days.
- For India Please note that applicants have to submit applications to the Visa Application Centers (VFS Global) as before but receive a visa issued in electronic form instead of a visa sticker on their passports.
- Approved applicants must show the digital Visa Issuance Notice on an internet-connected mobile device at check-in and on arrival. Printed copies, screenshots, or saved PDFs are NOT accepted — the notice must be viewed live online.
- The government visa fee for Indian nationals is a concessional bilateral rate and was not affected by Japan's July 2026 global visa fee increase.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Indian citizens eligible for the Japan eVisa?
Yes. Since 1 April 2024, Indian nationals and foreign residents of India can apply for Japan's single-entry tourist eVisa, valid for stays of up to 90 days, via the official Japan Visa Application Centre (VFS Global) channel recognised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
How long does the Japan eVisa take to process?
Processing typically takes around 5-10 working days, though the Embassy of Japan notes that times can vary with application volume and cannot be expedited for individual travel dates, so apply well ahead of your trip.
Can I extend my Japan eVisa or convert it to multiple entry?
No. The eVisa is strictly single-entry and tied to the tourism purpose declared at application; it cannot be extended or converted after issue. A new application through the same channel is required for a further visit.
Why do Japan eVisa applications get rejected?
Common reasons include mismatched passport/photo details, an unclear or unconfirmed travel itinerary, insufficient proof of funds or accommodation, and documents that don't meet the Visa Application Centre's format requirements.
Do I need to print my Japan eVisa before flying?
No — and you should not. Official guidance at https://www.in.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/Visa.html requires showing the Visa Issuance Notice live on an internet-connected phone at check-in and immigration; printed copies, PDFs, or screenshots are explicitly not accepted.
